Home sellers often ask me how they can continue living in their home when it’s for sale. If you’re in this situation, you can balance your home life and your home sale with the following tips:
1. Start packing now. The secret to getting your home free of clutter is to remove all the things you can live without while your home is on the market.
2. Unneeded items should be stored, sold, trashed, or donated. While you’re packing and decluttering the house, sort all your possessions into the aforementioned piles. Buyers will really appreciate the extra space you’re creating.
3. Clean up your house. Do you lack the motivation to get all the cobwebs off the ceiling fans or to get on your knees and scrub? Well, here’s some motivation: A clean house can get you $5,000 to $10,000 more than a home that isn’t. Aim for five-star hotel perfection when you’re deep-cleaning up your home.
“When that “For Sale” sign goes out on your lawn, you’d better be prepared to bare it all.”
5. Involve the kids. When you’re preparing for open houses or showings, challenge your kids to a contest to see who can clean up their toys and belongings the fastest. You’ll be surprised to see how much fun it can be when you start yelling “SHOWTIME!”
Moving isn’t always simple, but hopefully, with these tips, life can be a little less hectic. If you have any questions about selling your house or preparing it for the market, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
