Today we’ll be discussing the question of who’s truly responsible for keeping a home show-ready while it’s on the market.

Home sellers should want to make sure that their listing is show-ready at all times, but ensuring that this is the case can be a chore—especially if the sellers have already moved out.
So whose shoulders does the task of keeping a home in tip-top shape fall on? In general, this responsibility is held by whoever owns the house. Don’t make the mistake of assuming your real estate agent is also your gardener. If the listing is yours, then the responsibility of its upkeep is too.
Even so much as asking an agent to choose a vendor to complete home maintenance tasks or various repairs can lead to undesirable results. It’s more than alright to ask your agent for their recommendations when the time comes to paint, stage, or otherwise spruce up a home, but you will still need to do some due diligence of your own.
“Your agent has your best interests in mind, so help them help you.”
Whatever avenue you decide to pursue in keeping your home show-ready while it’s on the market, your agent will be there to help guide you. The important thing to remember is that they have your best interests in mind, so help them help you by, at the very least, keeping them up to speed on your maintenance plan for the home.
